Weekly Update

Hello Campbell Spartans:

We are rapidly approaching our Thanksgiving holiday and I know that each of you are all looking forward to a week of rest and spending time with your family. Each student will receive a math packet of assignments to work on during the holiday. The packet will be done on Monday, December 1, 2008. Students will pick the activities that they want to complete and assignments will be scored on the amount of assignments completed.

Unit 2 Post-Test

Hello Campbell Spartans:

This week is progressing along very quickly. This is just a reminder that our Unit 2 Post-Test will be scheduled on Monday, 10/06/2008. The test will cover all topics listed in Unit 2. I am placing a special emphasis on vocabulary with my students. Therefore, all students need to know the meanining(s) of the following words:

Vocabulary:

Prime Number

Composite Number

Factor

Multiple

Prime Factorization

Greatest Common Factor

Least Common Multiple

Additionally, I would like for parents to help encourage students to use their mathematical vocabulary words in sentences. This will help to make the definitions more meaningful to students, as well as give them practice with writing across the curriculum. I will post the Unit 2 study guide to my page so that parents can view the content material that will be covered on this upcoming exam. Have a great week Campbell Sparatans!!! :)

Factors and Multiples Unit 2

Greetings Campbell Spartans:

This week has been off to a great start. I am very pleased with the progress I am seeing with my students and the effort they are putting into learning this "Divisibility Rules." Parents, please continue to help support your children in their efforts of memorizing and practing these rules.

I wanted to post a few friendly reminders this week for parents and students.

- I am still grading Data Analysis Projects and should have them all finalized by Monday, 09/22/2008.

- Math students will have a "Divisibility Rules Quiz" this Friday, 09/19/08. Please rehearse these rules with your children each night for at least 20 minutes. All of my students have been given hand-outs to study from.

- Math Lessons for the reminder of this week will deal with students learning how to decompose numbers into its prime factorization. We will be working with the math concepts of "prime" and "composite" numbers, as well as begining to use factor trees for breaking down numbers.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please dont hesitate to contact me.
