Conference Week--please bring your student with you, they will be leading the conference enlightening you on their accomplishments and trials.
Last week we completed a power point project on simple machines and it went very well. Most students are knowledgeable on the computer.
QUIZ FRIDAY ON SIMPLE MACHINES!!
SIMPLE MACHINE PROJECT DUE NEXT MONDAY (FEB 2)!! PRESENT TO CLASS!!
Monday--We will again be in the computer lab working on a webquest. It is based on simple machines, but also on bringing in the IB focus. I will also introduce a new project that asks students in groups of 3-4 build a simple machine that works. The rubric will explain what is expected.
Tuesday--We will work on calculating mechanical advantage and efficiency to be completed for HW if not done in class.
Wednesday--The students will have a choice activity including, versatiles or a matching game. However, if I can reserve the computer lab again, we will be working on simple macines on Edheads.com.
Thursday--The students will choose an activity of versatiles or section review. We will also review for a quiz on simple machines for Friday.
Friday--Quiz and work on simple machine project if there is time.
This week the students were testing so the shedule was a little different. We began the topic of physical properties and how we use our senses to observe them. Then Wed and Thurs were spent in the computer lab researching science fair topics. All students should have a topic and be on the second phase of the project (see the packet that was given for more information). ***Remember: the items turned into me will be written or typed in the scientific method form*** The remainder of the week will be spent working on how to calculate density which will bring us into next week when we will be back on a normal schedule.
A unit test is coming up in two weeks (10/2). Please come to Wed tutoring to catch up on any missed work or just catch up if you are not understanding the information.

Science Fair--this year the county is requiring all students to participate in a science fair. There will be a packet given to the students to keep and indicate completion of particular deadlines. Most work will be done OUTSIDE of class with only a few days for computer research and extra help. More information will come home at a later time.
This week the students were introduced to matter and atoms. For some, this was new information, for others, it was a review.
CW: On Monday they began the 2-D model and recieved reinforcement page for homework. Tuesday: they recieved books and color coded the Periodic Table of Elements. Wednesday: we finished the PTE and worked on a graphic organizer for the PTE and metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Thursday: The students completed the organizers and reviewd for the quiz. Friday: Quiz and I took up IANs to check over the weekend.
Students who are missing work were informed to have it done by Tuesday. This is the only time I will take late work more than a week old. We should be back into the "groove" of school and know how to get to classes and know the rules of each classroom. Please email me with any question. There should be at least 5 grades in IQue by Monday. Have a great labor day weekend....be safe!
Welcome!! This will be one of the ways to recieve information about daily classwork and homework. Please email me at amy.rethman@cobbk12.org if there are any questions.
