March 5, 2008

This week we will introduce sound and how changing one part of a wave affects the total wave in terms of frequency and amplitude.  Also, we will manipulate palm pipes to determine how musical intruments make sounds of different pitch and intensity.

QUIZ FRIDAY--COLOR, LIGHT, EYE, SOUND

Mon: The students listened to many pitches and amplitudes to saw how waves change.

Tues: Palm Pipe lab

Wed: Discussed how sound is measured in decibels.  Also, a sound math worksheet on how to interpret graphs

Thurs: Read Science and Society "Noise Pollution" and discuss.

****STUDY FOR QUIZ********

Friday: Quiz on color, light, eye, and sound

January 15, 2008

January 14-18

Monday and Tuesday:  Continue with lab stations.

Wednesday and Thursday: we will review for Unit 3 test.  **I will be available on Wednesday and Thursday after school until 5:30 for review and also on Friday morning at 8am.

Friday:  Unit 3 Test

**Wednesday is the statewide writing test--please have your student at the school by 9am for breakfast and to homeroom by 9:10am.

January 11, 2008

January 8-11

Welcome Back!

Tuesday was a review of the class procedures, etc.

Wednesday:  discussed our knowledge on magnets and took cornell notes and summary--will be graded.

Thursday:  magnet video and began lab

Friday:  reinforcement pages (complete in class)--will be graded.  **we also discussed new procedures of grading--I will hand out progress reports on Friday for those students who are failing and the work is to be turned in on MONDAY--NO LATER, exceptions only handwritten notes from parents.

NEXT WEEK:

Continue with lab stations on Monday and Tuesday.  Wednesday the students have a writing test so classes will be short; we will review on Wednesday and Thursday.  Energy unit test (unit 3) on Friday.  I will be available on Wednesday and Thursday after school until 5:30 for review and also on Friday morning at 8am.

Tuesday:  Complete lab stations, review for tomorrows quiz, and discussed energy project.

Wednesday:  Energy QUIZ, Ohm's Law problems (DUE Friday), and discuss/work on project.

***Students be sure to bring in items and information to work on projects****

THE PROJECT IS DUE DECEMBER 19TH, WEDNESDAY....NO LATE ACCEPTANCE!!  DECEMBER 20TH WILL BE A REVIEW FOR THE MID-TERM AND FRIDAY WILL BE THE MID-TERM.

Week 15 (11/26--11/30)

Welcome back from a much needed Thanksgiving break!  I hope everyone is well rested and ready to finish out the year strong.  Remember I am here by 8am most mornings and I stay until 5:30 on Wednesday.

EQ:  How are different forms of energy related?

GQ: What steps does energy go through before it makes things happen around the house and other areas of our life?

Students will answer the quiding question by cornell notes, problem solving, viewing a video, and making a flow chart.  There will be a quiz on PE, KE, types of energy, Law of Conservation of Energy, and energy transformations on THURSDAY!!  These topics have been seen in previous units, this is touching on how they interact with our lives.

Students will be taking a Benchmark Test in all subject areas and Friday will be the day for science.

Have a great week!

Classwork Nov 7 through 9

Wednesday

We worked on balancing equations and understanding the Law of Conservation of Matter.  All matter is conserved, it only changes form during a chemical reaction.

HW: review for quiz on Friday and finish balancing equation worksheet

Thursday (I will be out)

The students will work on a review sheet and study for the quiz.

HW: finish review sheet for turn in before quiz and STUDY!

Friday ( Iwill be out)

Students took a quiz and worked on reinforcement pages

October 22, 2007

Week 11 October 22-26

New Standard Distinguish between physical and chemical properties of matter as physical (i.e., density, melting, freezing point, boiling point) or chemical (i.e., reactivity, combustibility). Mon: Graph interpretaion pre-test and density/physical property lab **Students also recieved report cards today!!*** Tues: Complete lab and summarize. Cornell notes on chemical properties. Electron dot diagrams. Wed: Cornell notes on chemical bonds. Graphic organizer on number of possible bonds. Thursday: Conductivity Lab Friday: Chemical formaula using molecule kits **IAN CHECK ON THURSDAY!!

October 19, 2007

Friday October 19

WU: Graph Interpretation

Today we summarized yesterday's density lab and worked on reinforcement pages.

There will be an IAN check next week

Have a safe weekend!!

October 18, 2007

Thursday October, 18

WU: Reading comprehension

Today we took CN on density and performed a lab.  It involved measuring the mass and volume of 100mL of water, a rock, and a rectangular object.  Then calculating the density = mass divided by volume.

HW: none

September 24, 2007

September 24, 2007

GQ: What effect do friction and gravity have on motion?

CW:  Today we demonstrated how Newton's 1st Law of Motion related to a nickel dropping into a jar when the index card was "flicked" out of the way.  Also, cornell notes were taken on force, inertia, balanced and unbalanced force.  A short video also demonstrated Newton's 1st Law.

HW: none....QUIZ and IAN check on Friday!!  Start studying now!!
