Classwork for 8/31/11

Today students were tested on all the Chapter 2 Material.  This included characteristics of living things, necessities for life, and the major types of biological molecules.  Student notebooks were also graded during class today.  There was no homework tonight.

Today in class we completed 2 graphic organizers on page 18 in our notebooks.  We put a graphic organizer for the 4 necessities of life on the top of the page and a graphic organizer for the 5 types of molecules on the bottom of the page.   Copies of the graphic organizers are attached.  They are to be filled out as extensively as possible. We then worked on a study guide to get ready for tomorrow's test.  A copy of the study guide is attached.

Classwork and homework for 8/29/11

Today in class students took notes on Chapter 2, Section 2 and have to write the summary of the notes for homework.  A powerpoint of the notes is attached.

Classwork for 8/26/11

Students finished taking Cornell Notes for Chapter 2, Section 1 and were asked to write a 7 sentence summary for the notes at the bottom. 

Classwork and homework for 8/25/11

Today in class I handed back the first week's warmups and gave students feedback.  We put them into our notebooks in the warmup section and reviewed how to convert the grades into percentages.  I then reviewed the class grading policies with the students.  Homework - 10%, Classwork/Quizzes - 25%, Warmups/Labs - 25%, Tests/Projects/Notebooks - 40%.  The students wrote this information down on page 4 in their notebooks.

We then began taking notes on Chapter 2 in the text.  The students took Cornell Notes on pages 12-14 in their science notebooks.  A copy of the notes is attached below.

Homework was to review the notes and prepare for a test next week on Chapter 2.

Classwork for 8/24/11

Today we discussed what the words biotic and abiotic mean and we did an activity designed to have students consider what living things need.  The activity is called "Is it Living?" and it goes on page 11 in the science notebook.  A copy of the activity is below.

Classwork for 8/23/11

Students finished their measurement lab and submitted an exit ticket about the purpose of the lab.

Today in class we reviewed how to convert units in the metric system and added some notes to page 4 in the notebook.

We then worked on a station lab where students were given the opportunity to make some measurements, practice making data tables, and answering some follow-up questions.  A copy of the lab is below.  The lab station data and questions were put into the science notebooks on pages 9 and 10.

Homework and classwork for 8/19/11

Today in class, students collected data about their learning styles on page 8 in their notebooks.  They were asked to tabulate their data, make a graph from it, and draw some conclusions.  They were asked to finish the "How do I learn best/ VARK" activity for homework.  I am attaching a picture of what their page 8 should look like along with a copy of the assignment.
