Classwork and homework for 11/30/11

Today students had to turn in their Chapter 4-1 Section Review questions found on page 93 in the textbook in order to begin working on the Gummi Bear Osmosis Lab.

Homework tonight is to review the concepts presented in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4-1.  On Friday we will have a test on the material from Chapter 3 and 4 to see what we need to review before the final unit test next week.

Classwork and homework for 11/29/11

Today we reviewed the information in the flip-books from yesterday on diffusion, osmosis, active/passive transport, and endo/exoctyosis.  The students were then asked to complete the Chapter 4-1 section review questions found on page 93 in the textbook.  Complete sentence answers are expected for every question.  They will be collected tomorrow before students can begin work on a lab in class.

Today we reviewed some of the information we learned about cell structures and functions before break. We began to introduce some of the ways that cells could import nutrients and export wastes.  Students were asked to make a foldable notesheet for them to take notes on Chapter 4-1.  The foldable had 6 sections.  One each for diffusion, osmosis, passive transport, active transport, endocytosis, and exocytosis.  Each tab had to include a definition, a picture, and any important facts the students could get from reading the text.

The homework tonight is to finish the foldable.

Today students turned in their cell analogy projects.  Students were also given a quiz to test their understanding of topics that have been covered so far this year.

Classwork and homework for 11/17/11 - Quiz Tomorrow and Projects Due!!

Today, students were given time to work on their cell analogy projects.  The projects are due tomorrow for all of my students.  Tomorrow there will be a quiz on Chapter 3-1 and 3-2 material.  If the students put effort into their projects it should help them with their quiz.

Today the students were asked to begin work on a cell analogy project that is due on Friday.  The students were given a project description and rubric (attached below) and were shown some examples of sample projects from previous years.  5th and 6th periods will not have class on Thursday due to a writing test but the due date doesn't change.  All students are expected to turn in their projects at the beginning of class on Friday.  Students who will miss class on Friday due to the renaissance field trip will have to turn in their projects during homeroom.

Classwork and Homework for 11/14/11

Today students were given a packet called Cell City Introduction which guides them through an analogy for a cell in preparation for their own projects they will complete this week.   A copy of the activity is attached. Beginning tomorrow students will have to design a cell analogy project to showcase their understanding of the structure and function of cell organelles.  The project will be due on Friday.  On friday we will also have a quiz on the material in chapter 3-1 and 3-2.
