Parents spend so much money on clothes these days. A designer brand of shoes will cost at least $70, (which are likely to be worn in p.e.). Jeans are even becoming expensive. Levi's are no longer the trend, neither is Old Navy. Therefore students are pressured to wear the newest and priciest clothing just so they won't be criticized by their peers. Parents have complained to me about the cost of school supplies and binders, yet I never hear the same frustration from them when 'little Johnny' asks for a pair of BAPES (Bathing Ape: designer tennis shoes, similar to Air Force Ones, that start out at $200.) When did schools become a fashion show? It sure didn't start with the present generation of adolescents. But I do believe that any school hallway can be compared to the runways in Milan. I won't even address the issue of dress code violations. I wouldn't know when to stop and I'm sure others might comment on that. I'm in support of uniforms. BUt I'm willing to hear both sides of this issue. If you have a comment or an opinion, let's here it.
