Music Apprecation is a class designed to explore the musical interests of students. We will discuss current music topics, research music around the world, learn about songwriting and composition, discover types of musical performances and music in the media.
This is the class syllabus for music appreciation. If students return this form signed by their parent or guardian, they will recieve extra credit points on a test. Download general_music_syllabus.doc
Along with other class grades, students are graded weekly on their participation. To see the class participation rubric...Download class_participation_rubric.doc

7th grade music class will continue to work on their songwriting projects as we discuss the need for copyright laws, the perfect performers, voice coaches, sound engineers at concerts, recording engineers, producers, transcriptionist, copyist, editor and arrangers.
8th grade will be working in groups on a "court" project in which they are lawyers defending the laws or people's rights in topics such as downloading music and censorship. They will brainstorm reasons that the jury should agree with them, discuss credible witnesses and write a final argument that they will read to the class. This will count as a project grade and several indivual grades.

For each day of the week this year there will be a different focus. In hopes to keep energy up and a great focus on all areas of development, every effort will be made to stick to this schedule. As always plans change, especially on the week leading up to concert.
Monday is our sight reading and vocal
development day. We will spend a majority of most Mondays learning the proper singing techniques including correct posture, diction and tone. We will also use this day to develop sight reading skills so that students can become better musicians
Tuesday will be spent rehearsing our music repertoire and concert preparation.
Wednesday is our music theory day. We will spend time on this day to focus on reading music notation and the concepts of music. Also on Wednesdays this year we will be a piano study. Most weeks, we will take a break from singing to learn keyboard skills.
The students will be learning simple children's songs and the vocal warm-ups. Each student will be able to work at a pace that is easy for them and still be successful. There will be a few tests on playing skills as the year goes by.
Thursday will be spent rehearsing our music repertoire and concert preparation.
Friday will be used for team building activities and review of the week.

Hello,
I
am very glad that you are visiting my Blog. Please email me for questions about the information. I am also always looking for helpful websites to post for my students.
I earned my Bacholer's Degree in Music Education from Kennesaw State University and my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction form Lesley University.
I have a wonderful husband and two very sweet labaradors at home in Paulding County. I am also the proud parent of a beautiful baby girl. She was born 14 weeks early and weighed 1 pound and 7 ounces. She is my little sweetheart.
I love to teach both chorus and general music in middle school. This is the point in a young singer's life that they can build foundational skills that will help them continue singing for the rest of their lives. Music students can final use their knowledge of music
to connect the information we learn in class to the music that they enjoy as well as learning about other musical outlets.
