We would like to encourage each student to sell at least 10 items. Please collect the money at the time orders are made. Online ordering is also now available by visiting our school's website. When we reach our goal of 800 items, we will have a BMX Bike Show for all students. The top selling class per grade level will also receive a pizza party.

Welcome Back!

As the proud principal of Campbell Middle School, I would like to welcome you back to the 2008-2009 school year; a year that will surely be one of the most exciting and academically challenging that Campbell has ever experienced.

Our mission is to ensure that every student receives a rigorous, relevant and quality education that prepares one to succeed and compete in a global society. To fulfill this mission, we will continue to focus on literacy across the curriculum and mathematical skills.

At Campbell Middle School our number one priority is student achievement. To ensure that all students meet their potential we will continue to focus on full implementation of a standards-based classroom and offer before, during, and after school tutoring. AR reading will also be used this school year to promote more individual reading. We want to encourage you to use our media center, skills tutor, and read with your student for a minimum of 15-minutes daily.

I take this opportunity to wish you every success this school year. Together, we can make a difference!

An Outstanding Year -Campbell Made AYP!

We are extremely proud to report that Campbell Middle School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2007-2008 school year. Our students met AYP requirements in all areas of test participation, academic performance, and attendance.

We are very pleased with the academic progress of our students. CMS students did exceptionally well on the CRCTs by obtaining higher scale scores and a higher passing percentage than the previous school year.

Students were required to obtain a scale score of 800 or higher to demonstrate proficiency in each of the five content areas of English Language Arts (ELA), Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies. We had 93 six graders who passed all five areas, 48 seventh graders, and 108 eighth graders who passed all five areas on the first attempt.

•Scale scores went up in 6th grade reading and ELA by 5 points (823 to 828), (819 – 824) respectively; 6th grade math scale scores went up by 9 points from 801 to 810; and science scale scores went up by 10 points (795 to 805).
•Seventh grade also obtained increases in scale scores in reading, ELA, and math. Scale scores went up 1 point in reading (817-818); 2 points in ELA (822-824) and 12 points in math (810 – 822).
•Eighth grade scale scores went up in reading by 7 points (821-828) and remained the same for ELA.
•Eighth grade math, science, and social studies tests were aligned to the Georgia Performance Standards for the first time and the results are not comparable to last year’s tests which were aligned to a different curriculum.
•93% of CMS’ sixth graders met or exceeded the standard in reading, an increase of 8 percent from the previous year.
•87% of the sixth graders met or exceeded the standard in ELA, an increase of 4 percent from the previous year.
•63% of the sixth graders met or exceeded the standard in math, an increase of 16 percent from the previous year.
•57% of sixth graders met or exceeded the standard in science, an increase of 17 percent from the previous school year.
•84% of the seventh graders met or exceeded the standard in reading, an increase of 5 percent from the previous school year.
•87% of the seventh graders met or exceeded the standard in ELA, an increase of 2 percent from the previous school year.
•79% of seventh graders met or exceeded the standard in math, an increase of 16 percent from the previous school year.
•The percent of students meeting or exceeding the standard remained the same in science: 64%
•93% of eighth graders met or exceeded the standard in reading, an increase of 11 percent from the previous school year.
•86% of eighth graders met or exceeded the standard in ELA, an increase of 3 percent from the previous school year.
•When comparing the 2008 results to 2007, our subgroups also demonstrated improved academic performance in ELA and Math.
•Campbell’s Mean Scale Score of 672 on the Algebra I EOCT was higher than the County’s (632) and the State’s (608). 100% of the students who took the Algebra I EOCT passed with 88% of the students exceeding standards and 12% meeting standards.

Parents, we need you to continue to hold high expectations for your students and the CMS staff members. You can continue supporting our efforts by ensuring that:
•Your students are in school every day prepared and ready to learn.
•Your students are reading each night for a minimum of 20-minutes.
•Your students are completing all homework assignments.
•You have your Iparent access code to monitor your student’s weekly performance via the internet.
•You are involved with PTSA - obtain a membership for $5.00
•You will call us if you have any questions and/or concerns – we need to hear from you.

We are looking forward to another outstanding academic year and we want your students to be successful. Our teachers worked very hard to ensure success and we cannot do it alone. Parents, we need your continued support. We thank you and all of our community supporters for your commitment to the future leaders of tomorrow. Together, we can make a difference!

National Middle Level Education Month

We invite you to join the students and staff of Campbell Middle School during the month of March to help us celebrate National Middle Level Education Month. This annual recognition of middle level education provides us with a special opportunity to focus the attention of our community and the nation on a very special time in the educational career of our children.

The theme for this year, Shining the Spotlight on Middle Level Education, reminds us why it is so important that middle level students strive to expand and sharpen all of their academic skills. The habits that students develop during their young adolescent years follow them for quite some time. We are all aware of the need for students to achieve academically at a high level, but we also need to remember that high achievement requires a supportive environment. A supportive environment is important at home and at school. Sometimes it seems like our children want us to disppear during this age, but they need us more involved now than ever.

We encourage you to get involved and to help us celebrate by supporting our efforts at home. This can be done by setting aside some time each day for reading with your child, talking about what is happening in each class, reviewing your child's assignments, talking about what is happening in each class, reviewing your child's assignments, talking about responsibilities, talking about daily experiences and attending school functions. All of these things demonstrate your interest and concern for your child's success. Whatever you do, remember to celebrate your child's efforts and successes. Join us this month in celebrating all the great people and experiences that are connected to early adolescents and middle level education!

Welcome Back!

As the proud principal of Campbell Middle School, I would like to welcome you back! I extend a warm Spartan greeting and wish you all the most successful year yet! We had a fabulously smooth first  week and  we are off to a fast start.

We care about every student in our school and we want every student to receive a quality education that is rigorous, relevant, and prepares one to succeed and compete in a global society. In order to achieve this, we worked hard to secure the best teachers for your students. However, parents, we cannot do it alone - we need you involved and working closely with our teachers to monitor your child's progress. We have smart students here and outstanding teachers, so with you involved as a parent, we can make a difference!

Our AYP status does not adequately reflect the academic progress that students made. We have a great deal to be proud of at Campbell, our teachers worked extremely hard during the 2006-2007 school year and the following academic gains are reflective of that hard work and our students' efforts:

  • Our 7th graders showed academic gains with increased mean scores in English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Fewer students performed at level 1(not meeting standards) reflecting increases in the percentages of students demonstrating proficiency. More students performed at the exceed standards level 3 in Math (6% to 8%), Science (5% to 18%), and Social Studies (10% to 27%)
  • Our current 8th graders also showed significant academic gains in performance from 7th grade: mean scores increased in Reading and English/Language Arts. Fewer students performed at level 1 (not meeting standards) in Reading, English/Language Arts, and Math. More students performed at level 3 (exceed standards) in Reading (5% to 14%), English/Language Arts (12% to 18%), Math (12% to 16%), Science (5% to 7%), and Social Studies (10% to 15%)
  • Campbell's Mean Scale Score of 642 on the Algebra I EOCT was higher than the State's (620) and the County's (641).

For our school improvement goals, we will continue to focus on increasing reading and writing proficiency as well as mathematical problem solving skills. Once finalized, we will post our school improvement plan on the school's website for you to become familiar with it. We want the Georgia Performance Standards to become a recognizable item in your household because your students will be working very hard. We want our students to use critical thinking skills and to perform at a very high standard. There is available assistance for you, so please do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers, counselor, and/or grade-level administrator if you need help.

Parents, I cannot say it enough, Middle School is not the time to let go and give more independence. The "middle years" are critical developmental years for your students and they need you more now than ever. Please stay involved and communicate frequently with your child's teachers. Together, we can make a difference!
