Campbell continues to demonstrate continuous improvement. Significant gains were noted in the number of students performing at level 3, the highest level of exceed standards. In both 6th and 7th grades, the number of students performing at level 3 went up in all four content areas (ELA, Reading, Math, and Science). In 8th grade, the number of students performing at level 3 went up in English Language Arts and Math. Scales scores went up in 6th and 7th grades for ELA, Math and Science. Reading Scale scores also went up in 7th grade.
In spite of our current AYP status, it is an honor to announce that Campbell Middle School is now an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) Candidate School. This is indeed a great opportunity for our students to gain more exposure and to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate effectively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world. IB MYP means teaching our students to become independent learners who can recognize relationships between school subjects and the world outside, and learn how to combine relevant knowledge, experience and critical thinking to solve authentic problems.
Your interest in school work is always a great motivator for students. Continue to help them to grow academically and socially. Encourage your child to come to school every day and to be prepared for learning. Talk to your child about our environment, international affairs, international understanding, and cultural awareness, as you continue to build your child’s knowledge and pride in our culture. The middle years are very exciting and very challenging – don’t ask, “How was school?” Ask questions that start with “Tell me about…” Suppose, you could….” Can you elaborate on…?”, or perhaps “What do you think about…?”. This will help your child to develop higher level thinking skills and prevent the standard answers of “nothing”, “I don’t know”, “fine”, etc.
Join us on Tuesday, July 28 at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at CMS for Parent Informational Meetings about AYP. As always, I want to hear from you, please call or come by if you have any questions or concerns.
