Fitness education is one part of students physical education program. One of the primary goals of physical education is to provide movement experiences where students are successful while they become more proficient in movement skills and in personal fitness.
The Presidential Fitness Test is a recognition type of program where only 2 out of 10 students "pass" the test and directly "compete" with other students as opposed with themselves. This does not motivate nor inform 80% of the students tested how to be healthier or improve their fitness levels. When we as adults go to the gym, it is for personal health benefits, not for competition with others. The standards are based upon other students in the country (Standardized Assessment) and are not used for goal setting (areas they wish to improve) nor are the scores used to make a personal plan for improvement. Students either pass or fail based upon the (norms/scores) of others. Student who get their name on the wall get a pat on the back............... but this recognition does little to motivate the majority of students who do not pass the entire test battery or are unfit.

is as follows:
• H = Health and health related-fitness
The primary goal of both programs is to promote regular physical activity among all youth. Of particular importance is promoting activity patterns that lead to reduced health risk and improved health-related physical fitness.
• E = Everyone
FITNESSGRAM and ACTIVITYGRAM are designed for all people regardless of their physical ability. They are intended to help ALL youth find some form of activity that they can do for a lifetime. Too often activity programs are perceived to be only for
those who are “good” rather than for all people.
• L = Lifetime
FITNESSGRAM and ACTIVITYGRAM have as a goal helping young people to be active now, but a long term goal is to help them learn to do activities that they will continue to perform throughout their lives.
• P = Personal
No two people are exactly alike. No two people enjoy the exact same activities. FITNESSGRAM and ACTIVITYGRAM are designed to personalize physical activity to meet personal or individual needs.
