Week 7 Assignments

Note: We will have CoGAT testing Wednesday and Thursday. It is very important that every student be present at 9:00 am both days and all week next week for ITBS testing.

Monday, Sept. 24: We will take Cornell notes on Newton's First Law of Motion and conduct a mini-lab on balanced and unbalanced forces.

Tuesday, Sept. 25: I will be out at a meeting. Students will complete the chapter 10 workbook packet they started last Friday.

Wednesday, Sept. 26: We will take Cornell notes on Newton's Second Law of Motion and complete a mini-lab on three types of friction and the force required to overcome each type.

Thursday, Sept. 27: We will practice calculating force and acceleration. Students will complete a worksheet with 20 practice problems.Students will need to study for a quiz on velocity, acceleration, balanced and unblanced forces for Friday.

Friday, Sept. 28: We will complete a quiz.

Week 6 Assignments

IMPORTANT! Several students have received progress reports that they are to show to parents and return with a parent signature. Please check with your child to see if they showing success in science. Thanks!

Monday, Sept. 17 - Velocity and Acceleration Lab. Students will complete lab in class, Make up will be Wednesday after school for absent students.

Tuesday, Sept 18 - We will graph the data from the velocity and acceleration lab. Students will have an assessment for homework.

Wednesday, Sept. 19 - EARLY RELEASE DAY (Students leave at 2:15). We will take Cornell notes on Newton's First law of Motion and complete a mini lab.

Thursday, Sept. 20 - Cornell notes on Newton's Second Law of Motion and mini lab. Students will graph data for homework.

Week 5 Assignments

Monday Sept. 10 - We will graph the data from our energy lab stations. Students will need at least three sheets of graph paper.

Tuesday Sept. 11 - We will write lab reports for the energy lab stations. Students should refer to the lab report format they have posted in the back cover of their notebooks.

Wednesday Sept. 12 - We will take a few notes on energy and review for a quiz on Thursday. Students must study for the quiz.

Thursday, Sept. 13 - We will take a quiz on elements, compounds and mixtures; the periodic table, and potential and kinetic energy. We will also discuss the instructions for a motion lab we will conduct on Friday.

Friday, Sept. 14 - We will complete a lab activity on motion that studies the concepts of velocity and acceleration. Students will create graphs of the data they find during the lab.

About the teacher

Welcome to the blog for Dr. Cearfoss' physical science class. This web blog is a valuable communication tool between parents and myself. It is also a great tool for students to use to check and make sure they have completed all the class and homework assignments for each day. Remember, no assignments are accepted late. Therefore it is very important that students stay on top of their daily work.

Week 4 Assignments

Week 4 we will study Potential and Kinetic Energy.

Tuesday September 4, 2007 - Students will read from the textbook and complete the workbook packet on chemical bonds.

Wednesday, September 5, 2007 - Students will read about potential and kinetic energy and complete the workbook packet.

Thursday and Friday - September 6-7, 2007 - We will do six short labs on potential and kinetic energy. Students will work in groups of four and will rotate from one lab station to the next. Each student will create data tables in their interactive notebook (IAN) for each lab. These data tables will be very important when students write their lab reports for these labs. Students will also need to answer several analysis questions at each lab stations.
