School Year 2010-2011

 So far all my art classes have been excellent. I have a great group of students in each grade level and I am looking forward to having a wonderful semester in Art. Art this year will focus on a global awareness as well as a self awareness in the art we creative. These concepts will help reinforce the IB program at campbell.

6th grade Comic Strips

6th grade has started working on drawing comics. Each student is asked to draft a comic strip and tell a story using words and visual cues. The students are practicing drawing emotions, movement, and sound. this project will take another full week to complete. 

7th grade Islamic Art-Mosaics

Starting this week in 7th grade, we will be studying Islamic art. We will look at geometric patterns in mosaics. Each student will be creating a mosaic using construction paper cut in small squares. The process can take up to two weeks, but the projects look awesome when completed.

8th Grade City Perspective

Starting this week 8th Grade will be creating a one point perspective. The students will study artist who used the same method to create a realistic drawings.  Each student will be asked to create a drawing of a city street. The one point perspective creates the illusion of depth in their composition.

I am the Art teacher at Campbell, and this will be my fifth year. Currently I have an art club that meets once a week on Tuesdays and I work with Mr Pollard on the WCMS morning show. If you miss a day in art, what do you do?

If you are absent due to an illness or school situation you may make up the missed day by handing in a sketch. These sketches will be counted towards your grade and should be worked on while you are away.

Homework

I do not assign homework in art class but I do expect for you to read every night. As part of the Accelerated Reader Program I want you to accomplish your reading goals. Read every night for twenty to thirty minutes.  If you have sketches that you have done outside of class; bring them in and I will offer extra credit.
