Unit 7- History of Latin America

Hello Parents and Students!

I am so sorry that I have not posted a message in a while.  Actually, it may be a while again before I begin posting regularly because I am going out on Maternity leave (It's a girl)! We are starting Unit 7 on Monday which mainly covers how the European colonization of Latin America changed the culture of both the Europeans and the Native Americans.

Ms. Stephanie Rosekrans will stand in as my supply teacher for the duration of my leave.  She graduated from Kennesaw State University this past December with her Bachelor's Degree in Middle Grades Education.  She is certified in Language Arts, Social Studies, and Reading.  She completed her student teaching assignment with team 6-2 during the Fall Semester and she has a great rapport with the students.  We are very excited about having her!

Unit 3- Political Systems

We wrapped up Unit 3 today by taking the Unit 3 Test.  Attached is the study guide that was provided to you on Monday.  I was a little disappointed to see that students were not as prepared as they should have been for the short essay topic when the questions were given to you ahead of time.

PARENTS AND STUDENTS: Progress reports go home today- marking the 4 1/2 week grading period.  If your grades don't look the way they should, then you have about 4 more weeks to pull up your average before your nine weeks report cards come out.  I would like to see everyone on the Renaissance (Honor Roll) Reward program.

Unit 2 is a long unit with a lot of material so we are going to break up the test into two parts.  We will test Friday over the WWI and Russian Revolution material covered in class.  Then on Monday we will pick up with WWII, the Holocaust, and Cold War for part two of the unit. I am attaching the Powerpoint on the Russian czars as well as the test study guide to assist you for review/studying purposes.

Europe's Physical Features

This week we are focusing on Europe's physical features.  The students worked on a map exercise that helped them identify specific countries and landforms in Europe.   We will have a map quiz on Friday.  Study your map.  If you want to practice learning your countries and geographic features online, then check out the attached link at sheppardsoftware.com and have fun practicing.

Fantastic First Week!

Yeah!! We made it through week one of middle school!  Students in my social studies class have a map assignment due on Monday for a grade.  The students have a checklist specifying what parts of a map need to be included with their map route from CMS to their home.  Also, if you did not already turn in your social studies syllabus, please have your parents sign it and turn it in on Monday.  I am attaching the syllabus in case you lost it and need another one. Have a great weekend!
