Last week Mr. Schmid visited the 6th grade classes to teach Empathy Skills. The lesson used media clips and reading a short story called "Through These Eyes" to engage learners. The class was separated into three groups to discuss and reflect on their specific character of the story. The lesson seemed to be effective as all students were able to summarize Empathy as an exit ticket to leave and go to the next period.
Understanding and exhibiting Empathy will hopefully deter bullying behavior and help empower bystanders to support the victims of bullying.
