Q1 Parent Notifications

September 15th: Class Assignment Reports with the Course Syllabus were sent home to parents for a parent signature and an opportunity to submit past due work.

Sept. 21st: First quarter Progress Reports from all classes were sent home with the students, Wednesday, September 21st, with students for parent review. PARENTS & STUDENTS.....Please take this opportunity to discuss grades and submit any past due work to teachers before final grades are submitted for the first quarter. The progress reports lists every assignment and every grade in each class. Work marked as a "Z" indicates work that was not submitted but may be submitted before the end of the grading period.

Sept. 30th : 10 Day Notices were sent home with students to notify parents of grades of 75 and below. It must be returned with a parent signature and past due work attached on or before October 10th. This is the final noticification before the end of the grading period on October 14th.

Accelerated Reader Requirements

Daily ELA homework is to READ, READ, READ 20-45 minutes

in an AR book of the student's choice!

What is AR?  Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program designed to gauge a student's current reading level and assign a range appropriate to a student's level that will enhance and challenge the reading ability of every child. Each student will take an STAR Diagnostic Test  each quarter to determine his/her individual Lexile Reading Range (ZPD). This is also be used to measure the growth of each student. A copy of the diagnositc test is sent home with each child for parent's review. (Sent home for parent signature and review on 8/27, 10/26) Using the ZPD range, each child will select books, preferrably non-fiction books, to read and take the quiz.

What is the expectation? Each child will read and take an AR Quiz on a minimum of six (6) Accelerated Reader (AR) books each nine (9) week quarter.  This means a book should be completed about every 10 days of the quarter to meet this goal. This is 10% of the English Language Arts grade at Campbell Middle. Students are required by Cobb County to read a minimum of 25 books per school year. The CMS Agenda Book has a location to log books on page 28 and for parents to sign off on. The reading level (ZPD) should also be written at  this location.

When can I get an AR book?  As a class, we visit the Media Center for AR books every other week.  A list of AR books can be accessed through the school website via Destiny and the same book obtained from the public library as well. Students may go in the mornings during homeroom or ELT with permission of the teacher as well. Please note If a student misplaces a CMS Media Center book, a fine will be issued and the child will not be allowed to check out another book until the matter is settled.

Where can I take an AR quiz? The Media Center opens at 8:40 a.m. daily to check in/out books and utilize computers to take AR quizzes. Students may go during homeroom or ELT with a pass from a teacher. Students can also take a quiz in homeroom with the teacher's permission as classrooms have computers. Students may take an AR quiz during a class when finishing work early and permission from the teacher. Additionally, AR testing is accessible from home or the public library via the internet.
