December 12: To expolore characterization, students will develop a "facebook" page for a mythological character of the student's choice. HW: Read 20-45 minutes in AR book. Final Quiz #6 due by 12/19. Book Talk Presentation Due is due 12/20.
December 13: Analyze a cartoon to examine the idea of how perspectives can alter the "truth." Define Key vocabulary terms by making Cornell Notes: allusion, dialogue, diction, didactic, irony, parody, perspective, syntax, visuals. HW: Read 20-45 minutes in AR book. Final Quiz #6 due by 12/19. December 14: Re-write any folklore (other than the 3 pigs as that was an example read in class) to tell the story from a different perspective. The story must include the following: the PLOT which is a detailed description of the setting, detailed characterization of the main characters, conflict, rising action, exciting climax, falling action and the resolution. Additonally, it should include elements of good literature that we have discussed over the course of the semester. These includes the following: dialouge, irony, tone, visual imagery, parody, allusion, perspective, syntax, tone, figurative language, engaging opening, show, don't tell, sensory language and vivid verbs. Story is due on 12/20. HW: Read 20-45 minutes in AR book. Final Quiz #6 due by 12/19. Book Talk Presentation Due is due 12/20.
December 15: Computer Lab. Last opportunity in class to revise essay on EssayScorer and print out final essay. Students are also asked to log into Study Island Program to ensure there are no problems in accessing the resource. Students are strongly encouraged to use at home to study for CRCT and practice skills from class whenever time allows. The assignemnts are already set up in the system for students to practice. HW: Read 20-45 minutes in AR book. Final Quiz #6 due by 12/19. Book Talk Presentation Due is due 12/20.

December 20: Book Talk Presentations. Story rewrite from previous week due today.Students were given a Winter Break Packet in English Language Arts and Math. They were asked to sign for reciept of the packet as well as understanding the following statement: I have received my 6th Grade Language Arts Winter Break Packet. I understand that I may complete it at my own pace, but I need to turn it in on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. It is my responsibility to keep up with my packet until the due date. If I am absent and do not get a packet, it is my responsibility to ask my language arts teacher for one. I understand that no second copies will be given and only completed assignments where I follow all of the directions will be graded. The packet will be available to print from the Campbell Middle School web site. Also, I understand that this will count as a TEST grade for the 3rd quarter.

December 22: Book Talk Presenations continue. Students may present stories for extra credit. HW: HAVE A FANTASTIC WINTER BREAK....and work on your Winter Break packet. (Note: Winter Packet is a school-wide policy. Students also have math packets.)
