College Letter Project: Introduction

AVID students!  Soon you will be writing a letter requesting information from the college of your choice.  Today, you will start by researching that college.

1) Pick a college that you may want to go to.  If you are unsure, you can start with the college matchmaker tool from collegeboard.  Just click on the link and follow the instructions.  http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/adv_typeofschool.jsp

2) If you already know of a college you might want to attend, go to the collegeboard website and type in the name of the college in the college search window on the right side of the following website:  http://www.collegeboard.com/student/index.html?student

3) Complete the College Letter Activity information sheet by navigating through the collegeboard website and finding the appropriate information.  Most of the information should be easily found using collegeboard.  If you cannot find the information through collegeboard, go to the college's website through the link under "at a glance."  Be sure you write in complete sentences for questions 1-13 and turn in your work to the substitute.

**If you get stuck, read the instructions and questions very carefully.  I've provided a few clues on the question sheet that might help you find the information.

Annual AVID College Trip

This year 31 AVID students visited Florida State University and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.  We had a blast!  We toured the college campuses, played in the football stadium, talked to college students, and relaxed.

Congratulations!

On Thursday, November 15th, five AVID students participated in AVID Awareness.  Diana Rojas, Autumn Williams, Tiffany Kelly, Petrus Reyes, and Uriel Ortiz went to the Renaissance Atlanta Hotel to share their experiences as AVID students with teachers and administrators who are getting ready to start AVID in their own schools.  The AVID students participated in a panel discussion and spoke with confidence about their lives as AVID students.  They also shared their binders with smaller groups of teachers.  The students truly shined and I am incredibly proud of them.
